Commercial electricianTenant improvementsIndustrial controlsYes. Replacing or upgrading an electrical panel needs a permit and an inspection. Sun City and Sun City West are unincorporated parts of Maricopa County, so permits there come from Maricopa County Planning and Development. Homes inside Surprise, including Sun City Grand, and inside Peoria get permits from their city.
A permit means an inspector checks the finished work against the electrical code. That protects you, and it matters when you sell the home or file an insurance claim. Unpermitted panel work can cause trouble at both times.
A licensed electrical contractor normally applies for the permit as part of the job and schedules the inspection. Before you hire anyone, ask whether the permit is included, and check the contractor’s license with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Ours is AZ ROC #341966.
A panel replacement also often means the power must be shut off at the meter. Your electrician coordinates that with your electric utility.
Not sure whether your address is in the county or a city? Your property tax bill or the county assessor’s records will show it. Or call us at (602) 999-2770 and a real person answers. You will hear the price before anyone drives out.
Rules vary by jurisdiction. Panel work involves live service conductors, so we recommend a licensed electrician do the work and handle the permit.
